Marcel Haas and the long path to AI-infused engineering

More than 20 years of platform transitions shaped Marcel Haas’s view that AI needs operational depth, not a separate innovation theater.

Marcel Haas’s AI work sits on a longer engineering path: SharePoint since 2006, Microsoft cloud since BPOS in 2009, Power Platform, bots and citizen development, and today’s agentic coding and embodied AI. More than 20 years across platform shifts

Marcel Haas has worked with SharePoint since 2006. His Microsoft cloud path began with BPOS in 2009 and continued through Office 365, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Azure AI, Copilot, and agentic software delivery.

That sequence is more useful than a single tool credential. It shows what survives technology transitions: identity, information architecture, migration, governance, adoption, support, and the need to transfer operating knowledge.

Intelligence before the current wave

Between 2017 and 2019, Marcel’s public speaking record covered citizen development, intelligent workplaces, bots, and applied AI across European community conferences. Sessions included The Rise of the Citizen Developer in New York and at Microsoft AI Bootcamp Vienna, followed by The Intelligence Infusion in SharePoint at SPS London.

He also documented virtual assistants built with Microsoft Bot Framework, Cognitive Services, LUIS, automation, and workplace systems. These were conversational software systems rather than physical robots, but they established an early bridge between enterprise context and intelligent interaction.

From software platforms to physical operations

Marcel’s track record also includes lead engineering around high-availability AutoStore systems in the Swisslog environment, international on-site service, and 24×7 operations. That experience made uptime, observability, incident response, and handover part of the engineering definition.

The CNEXT AI Labs Misty project extends the line into social robotics. The team Marcel co-leads connected Azure Speech, Azure OpenAI, video analysis, automation, and live ERP data to an open robot platform. The implementation belongs to the team, not to a solo-founder story.

Why AI-infused engineering

AI now accelerates research, coding, evaluation, and documentation. It does not remove the need for judgment. Marcel’s current practice combines agentic tools with senior accountability, repository context, tests, security controls, and operational transfer.

The point is not to add AI to an engineer’s title. It is to give experienced engineers stronger execution capacity while keeping a human answerable for the system.
